Also known as the Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Facial, the Vampire Facial® combines microneedling with the application of PRP to rejuvenate the skin. The process starts with drawing blood from the patient, which is then processed in a centrifuge to separate and concentrate the platelet-rich plasma. Following this, microneedling is performed to create tiny micro-injuries in the skin. The PRP is then applied during the microneedling session, enhancing its absorption and maximizing the rejuvenating effects for optimal results.

Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about your Vampire Facial® treatment

BEFORE THE TREATMENT

1. What is a Vampire Facial®?

Microneedling with PRP, commonly known as the Vampire Facial®, is an advanced in-office cosmetic treatment designed to address a variety of skin imperfections while rejuvenating your complexion. This treatment combines microneedling, or collagen induction therapy, with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to amplify the benefits of each method. Microneedling alone effectively reduces fine lines, acne scarring, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, acne, enlarged pores, and other skin issues. PRP, a technique initially used in sports medicine for injury healing, stimulates the body's natural healing processes. When these two rejuvenation techniques are combined in a single session, the result is a powerful skincare treatment that has gained popularity among both everyday patients and celebrities for its impressive, refreshed, and youthful appearance.

2. How does the Vampire Facial® work?

To understand how microneedling with PRP works, it's important to first grasp the individual procedures. Microneedling involves creating tiny, pinhole-like injuries in the skin using a specialized tool. This process stimulates the body's natural healing response, boosting collagen production, which is crucial for reducing fine lines, scarring, and other skin imperfections. Collagen supports the production of hyaluronic acid and elastin, which help retain moisture and maintain skin firmness. PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, is derived from your own blood, processed to concentrate platelets, and applied topically. It accelerates healing and enhances skin rejuvenation. When combined, microneedling creates pathways for deeper PRP absorption, amplifying the rejuvenating effects and leading to improved skin texture and appearance.

2. Am I a good candidate for this treatment? / Will this treatment work for me?

Healthy individuals seeking to reduce mild to moderate fine lines, wrinkles, acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, and other skin imperfections may be excellent candidates for microneedling with PRP. Those with more severe skin issues might need more intensive cosmetic procedures. This treatment is not recommended for individuals with blood-related conditions, such as anemia. If you are taking blood thinners or NSAIDs, consult a RichSkin provider, as these medications may need to be adjusted before and after treatment. To determine if you are a suitable candidate, schedule a free consultation with a RichSkin provider who can assess your skin and discuss your desired results to recommend the most appropriate treatment.

3. How is the Vampire Facial® treatment performed

The procedure begins with applying a topical anesthetic to ensure your comfort. While the anesthetic takes a few minutes to take effect, your blood will be drawn and processed in a centrifuge to separate the platelets from the plasma. This concentrated platelet-rich plasma, often referred to as “liquid gold,” will then be prepared for application. Once you’re numb, microneedling starts with a device equipped with numerous tiny needles that create micro-injuries in your skin. These pinholes enhance the absorption of the PRP solution, allowing it to penetrate deeper and maximize its rejuvenating effects.

4. How many sessions will I need to see results?

Most patients receive 3-6 treatments per area spaced 4-6 weeks apart.

5. How often/far apart should the treatments be?

Ideally 4-6 weeks apart.

6. Do I need to do anything to prepare for the treatment?

Ensure your skin is clean before the treatment. Avoid applying lotions, creams, perfumes, powders, or makeup, and steer clear of tanning prior to your session. Remove all jewelry from the treatment area. If you have excess hair in the area to be treated, shave it beforehand. It’s also helpful to have information about your medical history ready, as your provider may inquire about it.

DURING THE TREATMENT

1. How long does a treatment session last?

Each session lasts approximately 45 minutes, but it also depends on the area being treated.

2. What does the treatment feel like?

During the procedure, you'll feel tiny pinpricks on your skin, followed by a mild, zapping sensation. Afterwards, your face will feel warm, similar to a sunburn.

3. Will it be painful?

Vampire facials can be slightly uncomfortable but are generally not painful. During the procedure, you may feel small pinpricks and a zapping sensation from the microneedling, and your skin might feel warm, similar to a sunburn. For more intense treatments, a topical numbing cream can help minimize discomfort.

AFTER THE TREATMENT

1. How will my skin feel after my treatment?

Your skin may feel warm, similar to a sunburn, and could remain red for a few hours to a few days, depending on the treatment's intensity. Be sure to follow all pre- and post-treatment instructions to ensure the best results and comfort.

2. How long will the results last and are they permanent?

Many patients start to notice improvements within a few days after their initial treatment. Results will continue to develop over the next six months as your body’s natural collagen production progresses. Full results are typically visible around the six-month mark.

3. Is there any downtime/How long is recovery time?

Yes, but only for 48 hours post-treatment (or up to 5 days for more intensive treatments). Your skin will be red, and for the first 24-48 hours, you should avoid applying or rubbing anything on it, including water or sweat—so skip hot yoga or any activities that make you perspire. After 24 hours, you can apply makeup and resume your regular skincare routine. Use sunscreen with at least SPF 30, preferably chemical-free. Avoid vigorous exercise, hot baths, or massages on the treated area for the first 2 days. Keep your skin clean, protected from the sun, and avoid tanning.

4. Do I need to do anything after my treatment?

If your skin feels hot, use a fan to help cool it down. Avoid touching or scratching the treated area. For the first 24 hours, refrain from applying lotion, makeup, or any other products, including water. After 24 hours, apply sunscreen with at least SPF 30, preferably a chemical-free one. Avoid rigorous exercise, hot baths, or massages on the treatment area for the first 2 days. Keep your skin clean and protected from the sun, and avoid tanning. RichSkin will provide a post-care skin regimen—be sure to follow the instructions included in the box.

5. If I got a treatment on my face, can I put makeup up on right after?

You should wait until 24 hours after your treatment to apply any makeup or lotion.
